What is phitkari?
Phitkari is potassium alum — a naturally occurring mineral salt that's been used across South Asian households for generations, most often as an aftershave rub and an underarm freshener. It's mined, not manufactured, and it needs nothing added to it to work.
PhitCare takes that same mineral and moulds it into a stick, so you get the same phitkari your grandparents used, shaped for a quick swipe every morning instead of a chunk you keep wetting and rubbing by hand.
Crystal, rock, block or stick?
Search around and you'll see the same mineral sold as phitkari crystal, tawas, alum rock, alum block or alum stick. These are all names for potassium alum — the difference is only in how it's shaped and sold, not in what it is.
The version you'll find loose at a general store is usually an irregular lump broken off a larger block. PhitCare is the same mineral, machine-moulded into one even stick — no chipping a piece off, no guessing how much you're rubbing on.
Just one ingredient
PhitCare
- Potassium alum (potassium aluminium sulphate)
A typical spray or roll-on
- Aerosol propellant
- Synthetic fragrance
- Alcohol
- Antiperspirant actives
- Preservatives
One line on the label, because there's only one thing in the stick.
Deodorant, not antiperspirant
PhitCare will not stop you sweating. You'll sweat exactly as much as you normally do — that's a healthy, normal function and we're not trying to interrupt it.
What it does is target the odour. Sweat itself doesn't smell — the smell comes from bacteria on your skin breaking it down. Potassium alum's mineral surface helps reduce those odour-causing bacteria, so you stay fresh without anything plugging your sweat glands.
If you're looking for something to keep you completely dry, an antiperspirant does that job. PhitCare is for people who'd rather manage the smell and leave the sweating alone.
Raw phitkari lump vs PhitCare stick
Same mineral. The difference is entirely in the shape.
| Raw phitkari lump | PhitCare stick | |
|---|---|---|
| Format | An irregular lump broken off a larger block | One even, machine-moulded stick |
| Applying it | Rough, uneven edges can scratch or drag on skin | Smooth moulded surface glides on |
| Mess | Crumbles and sheds mineral dust as it wears down | Holds its shape in normal use |
| Consistency | Size and shape vary from piece to piece | Same size and weight every time — 60g |
| Where it comes from | Sold loose by weight at general stores | Made and packaged as a finished stick |
